About the role

Fireman & Company’s Intranet & Teams Practice is the legal industry’s leader in these areas. We have designed and implemented over 50 practice-centric intranets and our Teams work is breaking new ground at the intersection of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and work execution.

We are experiencing dynamic growth in this area, and we want to add an innovative, thoughtful Business Consultant to our team. The role will initially focus on client collaboration, business requirement gathering and documentation, and dynamic problem solving leveraging solutions from Microsoft and legal-specific content platforms.

Key responsibilities

The Business Consultant is expected to work on their own initiative, under the direction of senior leadership. The Business Consultant’s responsibilities include:

  1. Requirements gathering
    1. Facilitating interviews, focus groups, and workshops with the client (lawyers and other stakeholders) to identify current pain points, system requirements and opportunities for future innovation
    1. Documenting client-facing summary reports of interview insights and recommendations
    1. Creating mock-ups of screen designs and system configuration, to help users visualize the user experience, leveraging wireframing tools such as Balsamiq, Sketch, Figma 
  2. Analysis,reporting and documenting
    1. Carrying out analysis into current systems and processes at the client, and recommend solutions which will improve the way of working for lawyers and other business users
    1. Developing personas and other user attributes to understand how workflows will be adopted
    1. Reviewing and recommending tools to support the delivery of requirements
    1. Draft user flow diagrams and business requirements to aid developers in building out the solutions we design

  • Excellent presentation skills, able to confidently present to senior clients stakeholders, able to show aptitude to identify audience level and speak appropriately, able to lead demonstrations of software and design to client audiences  
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, managing multiple projects/priorities effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to interpret business needs and desired outcomes into a set of functional requirements that will help deliver client goals
  • Ability to streamline and standardize business needs to ensure consistency in the user experience
  • Ability to interpret reporting, analytics and research to incorporate into recommendations

Experience

The Business Consultant will be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

Essential

  • Delivering digital solutions using intranet (such as SharePoint), Microsoft Teams, and other content management platforms
  • Working on multiple projects concurrently within client facing professional services roles
  • Experience presenting to client teams and/or firm leadership
  • Working as part of a matrixed, remote team
  • Extensive experience of working with project management tools (eg MS Project, Asana, JIRA, Smartsheet, Basecamp)

Desirable

  • Understanding of Knowledge Management within the legal/law firm environment
  • Experience and/or exposure to the full life cycle of a project (pre-sales, initiation, discovery, design, build, launch, adoption)
  • Understanding and knowledge of applications and IT infrastructure components – e.g. software, mobility, platforms, and operating systems
  • Experience working with or implementing legal industry software (eg Handshake, iManage, NetDocuments, BA Insight)
  • Previous experience of Waterfall, Agile, SaFE, SCRUM methodologies for software implementation
